Well, here it is, just another Xbox 360 vs PS3 rant. Well maybe not, I really just try to call it as I see it. I am a long time playstation gamer starting with the original Playstation (keeping it about these two brands so I won't go into the history of all the other game consoles that I owned b4 this).

When the PS3 came out and I had the opportunity just to look at the graphics on the screen in the store displays and compare them to the XBox 360, I could see the difference very easily. There was always doubt however due to the fact that the store may have them connected in different ways, composite, RGB or HDMI cable. Since there was no way to tell, it wasn't fair to compare them based solely on the store browsing experiences.

So after many spirited debates amongst family and friends, some Xbox 360 FanBoi's (I'm one now too) and others PS3 FanBois', we couldn't really determine by way of pissin contest. So today, I finally had both consoles connected to my son's LCD and we had Dirt 2 and Skate 2 to compare on each .

So here is how they were connected:

PS3 - 1080i via HDMI cable
Xbox 360 720p via RGB Component cable

Element 22 inch LCD TV

Hands down, the Xbox 360 made the PS3 look like a PS2.5 not worthy of a full number upgrade from it's PS2 predecessor. The 360 was so sharp and accurate in the gameplay landscape including background and character detail. It was vibrant and each color, shade or light popped, but not at the whim of just being bright, it was accurate and that is what systems strive to be "real".

The PS3 really just looked like it was not quite finished yet in similar scenes. It was a real dissappointment because as a new owner of one of these systems, I was rooting for it, but it missed the mark. That's not to say it isn't a great gaming system in it's own right, it just loses the battle when the question is asked, "which one has better graphics, xbox 360 or PS3". The answer is overwhelmingly, the XBOX 360.

Side Notes:
I love the PS3 regardless, free online gameplay, seamless compatibility with avi movies and a generous 120gb hard drive. Integrated WiFi as opposed to an expensive wifi add on in the case of the Xbox 360. Slim PS3 design is far less bulky and sleek when compared to the competition. No external power supply is a plus as well.

Netflix: PS3 owns this one..you NEED to have a XBOX Live Gold Subscription to even connect to your own Netflix account using the Xbox 360..not good..
